On May 5, 2014, SunCal held the long-awaited grand opening of the Potomac Shores Golf Club, the first public Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in the Washington, D.C., metro area. The course is located within the new 1,920-acre Potomac Shores master-planned community in Prince William County, Virginia. The community’s spectacular waterfront setting, overlooking two miles of shoreline along the historic Potomac River, inspired Nicklaus with its pristine natural beauty and rich wildlife. Located just 30 miles south of the nation’s capital, this European-style playing experience promises to be the golf getaway of choice for Northern Virginians and D.C. dignitaries.
The 18-hole Potomac Shores is a masterful par-72 layout that offers four sets of tees, with a total distance ranging from 5,389 to 7,156 yards. Weaving through mature hardwoods on a hilly peninsula, the course offers dramatic vistas, native wetland buffers, and more than 200 feet of show-stopping elevation changes. The strategic nature of the course is complemented with a “fun, fast and beautiful” golf experience geared toward Potomac Shores’ future residents, resort guests and the general public.
The course also features the new Potomac Shores Golf Clubhouse, a gracious 8,000-square-foot gathering place reminiscent of a Georgian Plantation home, with wraparound porches and a traditional carriage house for private events. A state-of-the-art driving range and short-game practice area will give golfers the ability to work on virtually every shot.
