Pronghorn resort and golf club in Bend, Oregon: About as good as it gets

Central Oregon has been my favorite place in the world ever since I worked at Sunriver Resort (you can read my blog about the resort here) 10 years ago. Pronghorn Club is a private community close to Bend that now offers stay-and-play packages with luxury accommodations.

For years I’ve been saying (only half jokingly) that if I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is purchase a house at Pronghorn and join the club. Until I win (if I ever will), I will continue to go there to stay at one of the resort’s posh units. The resort offers 48 luxury units that have one to four bedrooms, a full size kitchen and a patio with a BBQ. Culinary options include the gourmet restaurant Chanterelle, Cascada and the Trailhead Grill.

Pronghorn’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Course (pictured above) is one of my personal favorites and is considered to be among the 100 best public access courses in the U.S. The Golden Bear took full advantage of the gorgeous high desert scenery and delivered a fun layout. Every hole is secluded and players can enjoy views of the surrounding mountains. The Nicklaus Course is a definite “must play” in my book and no Central Oregon golf vacation is complete without playing the course at least once.

Pronghorn’s Fazio Course is private and only open to club members and their guests. The golf courses are managed by Troon and always kept in immaculate shape. Tim Mahoney, constantly ranked among the best teachers in the U.S., is now running the Pronghorn golf school.
