Midwest Classic returns to Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate

The Midwest Classic is back for its second year at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan., just outside of Kansas City. The Web.com Tour event is scheduled for August 16-19 and the full field includes defending champion James Nitties of Australia.

Last year, the Midwest Classic earned its place among country’s top tournaments on what was then the Nationwide Tour. Last year’s tournament brought over 15,000 attendees who watched as rising stars from across the country and around the world competed over four days.

According to golf legend and course designer Jack Nicklaus, “The golf course at Nicklaus Golf Club is outstanding for several reasons, including its beautiful views, rolling fairways and capability to challenge both the amateur and the seasoned golfer. The course’s appeal to a wide range of golfers is due in part to the four sets of tees used to vary distance and angle to the green.”

This natural, classic Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course blends harmoniously with its surroundings. The seasoned golfer as well as the enthusiastic novice thoroughly enjoys playing this challenging, fair and aesthetically pleasing Overland Park golf course.

Founded, owned and operated by the PGA TOUR, the Web.com Tour identifies players who are ready to compete and win on golf’s greatest stage. With two out of every three PGA TOUR players boasting Web.com Tour roots, and alumni who’ve amassed more than 320 PGA TOUR titles (including 13 major championships and two FedEx Cup titles), the Web.com Tour’s impact on the PGA TOUR is undeniable. Some of the world’s best players—including Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, David Toms, Tom Lehman and Zach Johnson—sharpened their skills on the Web.com Tour.

The Web.com Tour features 29 tournaments like the Midwest Classic, played across the U.S. and five countries abroad. Much like the PGA TOUR, it enjoys a diverse membership and a global television audience on the Golf Channel, covering players from 19 countries competing for $19 million in prize money.

While the players make a significant impact on the PGA TOUR, the tournaments make an equally significant impact in the communities where they’re held. With the help of over 20,000 volunteers and support from local sponsors, Web.com Tour events raise major dollars for designated charities–and that’s what the Web.com Tour is all about.
